The Editors Retreat is an unparalleled industry event, exclusive to highly experienced editors of film, TV and video. To ensure that only the best of the best attend, participation is subject to an application and screening process by a committee of peers. Running for 5 days and 4 nights, the Retreat will only be open to approximately 75 qualified applicants.
The Retreat’s focus will be evenly split between high-end technical sessions and ‘the world behind the timeline’ – the creativity and the craft of the editor, and the business of creating a thriving editing career. Presenters include award-winning editors and icons from the editing world, alumni of previous FMC ‘Master Editor’ programs and known industry power users.

Advanced Technical Sessions
Master Classes and ‘Power Tools’ – These advanced technical sessions will provide the best tips on a variety of software, hardware and techniques.
Peer Presentations – Select attendees will demonstrate a technical topic by dissecting a project they have done commercially.
The Experts Table – The finest instructors will be available to provide technical advice and tech support for all those questions you always wanted to ask.

Engaging Creative Sessions
Attendee Cuts – Prior to the Retreat, attendees will receive dailies of a movie scene and a known TV spot. They will cut it at home and bring their version on DVD for screening and work critique, at these sessions. We will then watch and discuss the version that actually made it to screen.
Keynotes – Award-winning editors will discuss their creative approach to cutting a scene, and have plenty of time for Q&A.
Roundtables – These free forum discussions will explore important topics like "what to do when the footage is not enough" or "how to keep re-inventing yourself as an editor."

Informative Business Sessions
The business track will divide attendees into 3 groups: freelancers, boutique owners and facility managers. The sessions will discuss what it takes to thrive and grow in today’s market, focusing on the distinct challenges and needs of the individual professions.

Distinct Networking Possibilities
Attendees will dine together as a group, with ample time for chatting and networking around the table. The group will also enjoy a dinner cruise and other social outings to South Beach hot-spots. In addition, the Editors Pub will be open ‘after hours’ to allow a casual environment to show reels, talk shop and mingle.
