Payment 3: Final third due 90 days after the event on April 16th, 2010

Attendees can reduce their total cost by $500 by preparing a Peer Presentation. Select attendees will demonstrate a technical topic by dissecting a project they have done commerically.
Deadline: From now until December 1st, you can submit a session idea that you would present. Presenters will receive a $500 discount off the registration price. Your next step is to let us know what presentation you have in mind.
Details
While the Editors Retreat is platform agnostic, favoring no specific tool over another, the Peer Presentations are permitted for skilled editors to show/mention their favorite choices and tools in completing their work.
Past presentations have included:
- Producing from the Editor's Chair: The Hurricane Katrina Project (Stig Daniels); Avid
- Cutting the Independent Film (Abba Shapiro); Final Cut Pro
- Documentary Work and Workflow (Steve Audette); Avid
These presentations are limited to 75 minutes (be aware of this as you suggest and plan your presentation). Aim for exciting topics that you think your colleagues would find interesting, informative, revolutionary or evolutionary (Like editing, being concise is critical). Between now and the retreat, you may find your session evolves and changes. This is very normal for this sort of presentation.
When preparing for your presentation, consider these common criticisms:
- Speaker could have gone longer.
- Speaker wasn’t focused.
- Speaker didn't talk about topic.
- Speaker wasn't organized.
All of these are symptoms of the same problem. The key to a good presentation is planning and pacing for the duration of your talk.
Questions to answer in your submission
(Answers to these questions are necessary in helping the Program Manager determine the best variety of sessions and topics):
- What is the topic of your presentation (Feel free to ask for help on the title)?
- What are the key things you intend to communicate during your presentation? (We’d like to hear at several key points to help us evaluate your session.)
- What software/hardware tools would you focus around?
Approval
After your session is approved, we will be contacting you to request more details. You will be required to submit an outline approximately 30 days prior to the Retreat. The main portion of your outline should contain clear bullet points listing the concepts you plan to cover. The goal of the outline is to map out your ideas and structure them into something cohesive and concise.
We look forward to hearing from you. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Joel Bell.
Due to the limited size of the event, cancellations of the Editors Retreat are non-refundable. However, fees paid (less a $250 administrative fee) may be applied towards future Editors Retreat events or classes at any Future Media Concepts training center.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Joel Bell.
Your hotel stay at the Deauville Resort Beach Hotel is valid for two guests per room. Your spouse/guest is welcome to join you during your stay and enjoy Miami with you, however daily meals are not included for your spouse/guest. Our rate at the Deauville can be extended before or after the retreat for a few nights. This would be a great way to enjoy some 'R&R' with you spouse/guest. Contact Joel Bell to request an extension. To ensure the best retreat experience with your fellow editors, during the retreat your spouse/guest is not permitted to join you during any sessions, however they can join you during planned social activities.
Additional nights (room extensions) before or after the retreat can be arranged. You will be responsible for the addtional nightly room charges. Please contact Joel Bell to request an extension. If the hotel stay is available, the nights will be added to your reservation. You will be responsible for providing your credit card to be charged for the additional nights upon check-in.
